January 15th – Repentance
Author: Jeff Dew
Today’s Scripture Reading: Psalm 51
The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts. – Isaiah 57:15
We all love the story of the underdog who despite long odds wins the victory and gets the prize. I love the “Rocky” movies. In Rocky II, Rocky refuses to train for his rematch with Apollo Creed after Adrian has an accident and slips into a coma while delivering their child. It is only after she awakens to find Rocky at her side and says, “win”, does Rocky have the courage to go out and train and ultimately beat Apollo. Rocky needed Adrian’s affirmation to do what he needed to do.
You may have allowed God to examine your heart and bring things to your attention that you were unaware of. You may have made a list and confessed them before Him. Today, approach His throne agreeing humbly that He is right, has always been right, and that you do not want to offend Him again in the things that you have confessed before Him. If you do this with a crushed spirit in humility, you will walk away revived affirmed by God, the loser ready to win!
Prayer Focus: Read Psalm 130:3-4 before you pray today. When we confess and repent we can have freedom knowing our sins are forgiven.
