January 14th – Confession
Author: Jeff Dew
Today’s Scripture Reading: 1 John 1 & 2
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9
There is an old saying that goes, “Confession is good for the soul, but terrible for the reputation”. That is true enough when we confess without regard to whom we are confessing, but when we confess our sins before our loving Heavenly Father, we not only benefit in our soul but in our reputation before God. Having children myself, I have always found it better when my children confessed to something I already knew they had done instead of trying to sneak around and cover it up. Since God already knows what we have done before we even conceive it in our minds, it clears our lines of communication with Him when we acknowledge those things to Him instead of thinking we can sneak around and “get away with it”.
As you spend your day today, write down a list of the things that you need to confess before God. After you have compiled your list read them aloud to Him and agree with Him that these are not pleasing to Him. You will feel fresh and cleansed by His forgiveness… down to your core.
Prayer Focus: Confess your sin to the Lord, knowing he is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you!
