Today’s Scripture Reading: Psalm 139
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. – Psalm 139:23
I love the story of the emperor’s new clothing. If you remember, the king hires two weavers to fashion him an exquisite outfit. The weavers promise a new suit of clothes that is invisible to those unfit for their positions or are incompetent. When the Emperor parades before his subjects in his new clothes, a child cries out, “But he isn’t wearing anything at all!” All those around the king had been too frightened to tell him that he was naked. They feared that they were the ones who were wrong and it took the simple child to set the record straight.
Too often we are like the emperor. We have convinced ourselves that there are things in our life that are alright when in fact we are at risk of being exposed. These are the things that even our closest friends are reluctant to call our hand on because they either fear that they are misinterpreting things or they fear having their own junk confronted.
Prayer Focus: As you pray today, ask God’s Holy Spirit to search you from your very core outward. Ask Him to show you the things that you think, the things that you do, and the things that you say that are displeasing to Him. Ask Him to show you the things He wants you to think, to do, and to say.
