Today’s Scripture Reading: Proverbs 3

And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.  And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.  So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas.  And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”    And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. – Acts 16:6-10 ESV

Living under the leadership of the Holy Spirit can be hard.  Paul and his companions had to learn this lesson.  They were doing the work of God and sharing the gospel with the Gentiles. But their plan was not the Holy Spirit’s plan and they had a huge decision to make.  Twice they tried to go places and they were stopped by the Holy Spirit.  They had to decide whether they would keep going with their plan or whether they would trust the leadership of the Holy Spirit, even when it didn’t make sense.  Their plan was good.  The Holy Spirit’s plan was best!

We will be faced with similar decisions as we live under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.   Sometimes His directions won’t make sense.  We will be faced with the same choice that Paul had.  It is the same choice that Jesus had at the garden before his death.  Let’s choose what Jesus chose and say, “Not my will, Father, but yours be done.” Let’s commit to choosing what’s best over what’s good!

Prayer Focus: Where are you choosing good over best? Pray that God will reveal these areas of your life and choose to follow God’s will.
