Day 5 – Leadership of the Holy Spirit Part 1

5January 11th – Leadership of the Holy Spirit Part 1

Author: Cesar Correa

Today’s Scripture Reading: Matthew Chapter 4

Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.”  This is a desert place.  And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure.  He had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah.  And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.”    So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, Do you understand what you are reading?  – Acts 8:26-30 ESV

This passage from the book of Acts gives us such an exciting view of what it’s like to live a life led by the Holy Spirit.  Philip was told to rise and go to a desert place. He wasn’t given instructions about what he would do there, whom he would meet, or how long he would stay there.  Can you imagine being in his place?  I know I would have had a ton of questions running through my mind. But the Scriptures say that he got up and went, and when he meets the Ethiopian eunuch, the Holy Spirit tells him to go and join him.  Philip runs to him and has a life transforming conversation with him.

Living under the leadership of the Holy Spirit can be scary and unpredictable.  It means giving up control and completely trusting Him.  It means that we may be told to go to some difficult and hard places because that is where the people who most need the hope of the Christ are going to be.  But it also means that we get to experience the power of God in and through our lives in an incredible way.

I want to live my life like Philip.  I want to be obedient to the Holy Spirit without question and run to the opportunities He puts before me so that I can be a part of the life transforming work of God.  I hope that is your desire as well.

Prayer Focus: Oftentimes knowing God is nudging us to to do something for Him is not our difficulty – obedience is our barrier.  Pray today for the Holy Spirit to speak to you. When He does…don’t pray more about it – Obey!
